Most contractors are quoted on FOB only. The real cost of Chinese tile is much higher.
A contractor gets a quote on Chinese porcelain tile at $1.20 per sqft FOB. They think the landed cost will be around $1.60 to $1.80. What they do not know is that many Chinese porcelain products carry anti-dumping and countervailing duty orders that add 20% to 80% on top of the standard 3.9% tariff.

AD/CVD status on every Chinese quote
Anti-dumping and countervailing duty orders are product-specific and manufacturer-specific. A factory not named in an AD/CVD order may quote a very different landed cost than one that is. We verify this before we present any Chinese tile option, and we include the duty calculation in the quote.

The AD/CVD factor: the standard base tariff on porcelain tile (HTS 6907.21) is 3.9%. But many Chinese tile manufacturers are covered by anti-dumping and countervailing duty orders that add 20% to 80% on top. A Chinese tile order that looks competitive at FOB can be completely uncompetitive at landed cost.

Why Nexo exists.
We kept seeing the same situation. A contractor gets a FOB quote on Chinese tile that looks competitive, runs the math on a 10 to 15% duty, and builds the project budget around that number. Then the shipment clears customs and the actual duty is 40, 60, sometimes 80% because the factory was on an AD/CVD order nobody mentioned. The tile already shipped. The budget is already committed.
The Italian and Spanish side was the opposite problem. Buyers assumed European tile had to cost what US distributors were charging for it. Most of the time it did not. The factory in Sassuolo exports the same tile for $3.20 per sqft that ends up at $9.00 on a US distributor shelf. The quality is identical. The margin is not.

What are anti-dumping duties and how do they affect tile pricing?
Anti-dumping duties (AD) and countervailing duties (CVD) are additional tariffs imposed by the US government on certain imported products where foreign manufacturers are found to be selling below cost or receiving government subsidies. For Chinese porcelain tile, active AD/CVD orders can add between 20% and 80% on top of the standard 3.9% import tariff. The duty rate varies by manufacturer and is determined by CBP at the time of entry. We check the AD/CVD status of every Chinese factory before presenting them as a sourcing option, and we calculate the applicable rate in your landed cost quote.
Why is Italian and Spanish tile worth sourcing direct?
Italian and Spanish tile gets significant markup through US distribution. The quality is real but much of the price premium is margin, not product value. Sourcing direct from a verified European factory typically lands at 35 to 50% below what a US distributor charges for comparable product. For hospitality and luxury residential projects where Italian or Spanish tile is already specified, direct sourcing captures that margin without compromising the spec.
What is the minimum order for wholesale tile?
Our minimum is $10,000 FOB. Depending on the price point, that is roughly 3,000 to 8,000 sqft of standard format tile. For large-format or premium Italian tile the minimum sqft is lower because the unit price is higher. We confirm the practical minimum for your specific spec when we respond to your inquiry.
How long does delivery take?
Production lead time is 6 to 16 weeks depending on origin and factory schedule. Transit varies: 5 to 10 days from Mexico by truck, 22 to 28 days from Spain or Italy, 25 to 32 days from China. We confirm lead times with each factory before presenting options. Mexico is the right choice when your timeline is tight and the spec allows for ceramic or mid-market porcelain.
How do you handle shade lot consistency on large orders?
Shade variation is the most common quality issue in tile. Each production run has a shade lot number, and tile from different lots can have visible color variation when installed. We confirm shade lot coverage with the factory before production to ensure your full order ships from the same lot. The pre-shipment inspection also documents shade lot numbers for every pallet. If your order is large enough to require multiple lots, we flag this before you commit and coordinate matched-lot production where possible.
Can we source a specific Italian or Spanish brand?
We source from verified factories, not through brand distributors. Many Italian and Spanish tile brands are produced by the same factories that supply major branded collections. If you have a specific brand or collection specified, tell us the format, finish, and technical specs. We will source the equivalent from a verified factory at a significantly lower landed cost.
Do you handle US customs clearance for tile imports?
Yes. Our landed cost quote includes customs broker fees and the complete duty calculation, including AD/CVD where applicable. You do not need to hire a separate customs broker or interact with CBP directly. We coordinate the process or work with your existing broker if you have one.
